If the red light is the one next to the black cartridge, then, since you have swapped the MK and PK a few times, it sounds to me as if the chips on the cartridges aren't making good contact with the contacts on the printer. There are no lights (on my 2200) on or near either the roll-feed button or the ink-drop button.
